45acp Winchester 230gr Silvertip HP

This ammo was way ahead of its time, This was one of the first ammo to include a larger cavity & allow jackets. For that reason The silver tip had a big following, now that time has caught up to this round there are many in this category, well see how they compare to the old standard.

The sheetrock test, the Silvertip proved to penetrate like most hollow points, going through 8 layers, the equivalent of 4 walls, the round still did not expand at all.

The Ballistic wax test proved to show the real abilities of what this hollow point is capability of in soft tissue, it expanded perfect, and penetrated 9inches. If you do hit your target, it will do its job.

I had to test this in the water to get a best case expansion to compare to. This is exactly what happened. The ammo looked almost identical to the ballistic wax expansion. So this round is expanding to its potential.

My opinion:  This is still a standard for most smaller weapons, the ammo will expand, as long as the cavity does not get clogged. I would say if you carry this ammo in a smaller caliber than the one tested you should be fine. If you carry a 45, I would say go with a round that is consistent in all mediums that you are going to encounter.
