CRKT M16-13T Folder

The M16-13T has a 3.50” blade that combines a razor sharp edge and a triple-point serrated cutting edge.  The overall length of the knife is 8.25”, with an impressive weight of 3.4oz.

This design is essentially the same as CRKT other M16 designs.  The difference being of course that this particular model is made of titanium.  The handles are open frame which makes for a unique feel when you are holding it.  The frame is made from machined 6AL4V titanium, the reason being that this gives it a better weight to strength ratio than most other metals.  This also means that it has a nearly indestructible frame.  The frame is then blasted with ceramic beads to give the handle a better and more comfortable grip.

The blade is AUS 8 stainless steel, this being chosen for its ability to retain an edge after much torture.  The blade is bead blasted as well to match the handle and also give it a non reflective finish.  The 13T in particular has a combined edge, the front part of the blade being a straight razor edge and the back part being a triple serrated point.  As with many of the other M16 blades the titanium model also has the “Carson Flipper” which has become one of their trademarks.  This is an extension to the blade which aids in fast opening and also can double as an additional blade guard.

What we think:

This knife is with me all the time, it has become an indispensable part of my daily attire.  I use this model as my everyday carry as well as one that I carry during “special” activities.    This knife is a perfect size for duel duty, yet big enough that you know it is there and ready to work if needed.  The knife is extremely light weight and well balanced for a knife this size.  It has pocket clip on the outside handle to allow a variety of carry options.  The opening action is lighting quick and smooth as silk as well as ambidextrous.  While that feature is not important to a lot of people to me it is a must.  I have had the opportunity to use this knife under a variety of conditions and it has not let me down yet.  The blade is nearly as sharp now as the day I received it.  The M16-13T has been exposed to all the elements in a variety of ways and with a little cleaner and a towel it still looks great.  I have no doubt that this is a knife that I can turn to at anytime and it will perform flawlessly, with impressive cutting power for minimal effort.

As with many in the line of work that I do, we are always looking for the perfect knife.  The one that will be the end all be all so to speak for any situation.  I have found over the years however there is no such thing; there is the perfect knife for a given situation.    With that said though if I had to pick a knife that came  closest to this perfect blade the CRKT M16-13T would be it.
