Egear E-2 Flashlight

Let me start by saying that I have owned most of the top lights on the market. I have used the lights in everyday use, competition, to tactical scenarios. With that being said. I will tell you about a little known company that is working its way up in the LED flashlight market. Essential Gear also known as Egear. These guys have lights that look to take the market by storm, great design & durable. .  Egear sent us a few of their lights to test out. We received the PDL series you can read the review on those here. I was tasked with testing the E2, it’s an all aluminum tactical light that has the same specs as the other tactical led light that run $75 - $200 price range, just one thing, these are around $45 – 60, oh yea and one more thing, it runs off of 2AA batteries.

A little about the technology. These lights have an DC-dc converter. This means that the light will not dim light the competitors, you have a pure white light from start to finish, giving you the ability to do your job more effectively.

Now about the E2, this light has the same specs as its PDL brother ( 3 watt LED bulb, 100,000 hour life, will not blow or burn out), just its not a lithium based light, it runs off of 2 AA light.  Keep reading,  its not a bad thing. I was skeptical myself. Then I turned the light on. This light produces just as much light as the competitors. This alone got me interested, not to mention that this light was rugged, all metal. So now lets see if this thing lasts.

Over the time I have had this light I have taken it to the range to see if it held up under the tactical exercises I have used it around the house, working on the car. This light has a few scratches, but that’s normal after being dropped on concrete, ran over by my car accidentally, dropped in the water.  This light has all the characteristics that are desired in the more expensive lights. I would recommend that anyone go out and get one of these if they are in the market for a tactical light. Actually get 2. They are that good.

Is there anything that I didn’t like? Well I agree with the other article that it would be nice to have more finish options. This is not a scratch proof  surface, when you find one let me know. Its metal, but its tough. After all I put it through it only has very small superficial scratches, very small ones.
