I had always heard of the Golden Saber ammo, but never had any personal experience with it. I had never heard anything bad about it. My first look at the ammo, I was impressed with the look, it has angled cuts along the jacket instead of the straight cuts into the jacket. The head of the bullet appeared to stick out as far as possible, after measurement I found out that the bullet taper was a sharper angle. The company website states this ammo has a Velocity of 940fps and 320ft lbs of energy at the muzzle. This ammo is also stated to be designed for home security and Law Enforcement and was designed to meet the testing requirements of federal and local law enforcement agencies.
The Water test showed great expansion, just as the pictures stated in the ads. I used a new testing method with this ammo, I have obtained a wax testing substance that is supposed to replicate the Gelatin results. I tested the ammo in the was ans it showed perfect expansion and a penetration of 14” which from what I have read around on the net this is comparable with the Gelatin, The sheetrock test showed that the ammo penetrated 8 Layers and bounced off the 9th, and still had good expansion, this tells me that the golden saber claims to have fair penetration and expansion over a wide variety of scenarios.
My opinion. Go out and get some. This is an all around good ammo to have. IF you have a weapon you carry with you all the time, and then keep it in your night stand at night, this is one ammo that will fit both duties. It was design to have low muzzle flash to night firing is not as bad as some of the other +P ammo on the market. The recoil was average, and accuracy was great. I have heard the 127gr has better over all expansion and less penetration so you use your judgment on what is more important, but its an ammo that I use in my weapon.
