This ammo is labeled as the “Intelligent Bullet”. It is stated to be able to penetrate hard targets and fragment in soft targets. Its also rumored to be able to penetrate Kevlar. This ammo is also very light, 65gr. made of an alloy blend. This is what got me interested in this ammo. For a while I used to carry a Kimber Pro Carry with this ammo in it, mainly due to the weight. The company states that the ammo travels at 1550 fps and 347 ft lbs of energy.
Now for the test. The sheetrock test showed the ammo to penetrate 7 layers and bounced off the 8th the equivalent of 4 walls. Like so many others tested the cavity of the ammo was clogged and prevented the ammo from expanding. I tested this in a water test, it expanded like it was supposed to, it separated into 4 pieces.
My Opinion: I don’t like a hollow-point that does not expand. I did see this ammo do what it stated, but you will hear me say this a 1000 times, If you miss your target, where does it go? My test show that if you do miss, the ammo will travel about 4 interior walls and stop. This is good. Would I carry this. In my 45 yes, but in my 9mm I carry all the time, I want expandability & reliability. For average home defense it’s a fair round there are worse and there are better.
I just got a call from Aguilla and they told me that they have discontinued this ammo. but you can still find it all around on the net. If you have a heavy gun, at least try it. Its not bad priced. You don’t have a lot to loose.
