9mm Winchester Ranger 127gr +p SXT

WinSupreme.jpgThis ammo was given to me by a local gun store owner and she wanted me to test it, cause that is what she carries. I have the ranger on my wish list so I said why not. The website states that this ammo is a reverse taper design and travels at 1185fps and delivers 387 ft lbs of energy. The numbers sound good, lets see how it stands up. The sheetrock test proved to show that the ranger does to one thing, penetrate, it stopped at the 14th layer of sheetrock, and absolutely no expansion, the hollow point cavity was filled with sheetrock material.

My opinion, well a hollow point is supposed to expand right? Like I have said before I don’t care what it does if you hit your target. I am concerned about what happens if you DON’T. this ammo penetrates to much for home use. That is what would happen if you were to shoot and miss your attacker. It could very well end up in your neighbors house, or worse your neighbor. I do feel that if the bullet would have a larger cavity or was pre-fragmented to open easier it would have done better. The cavity was completely filled with sheetrock.  I would like to do more testing of this ammo in various tests. But for now I say no, don’t go out and buy this ammo.
